Hokies with a pair of singles wins on day two of Ivy Plus

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday during the second day of competition at the Ivy Plus hosted by Princeton.
The Hokies’ Feliksas Sakalauskas rolled to a win in the first match of the day, defeating host team Princeton’s Jimmy Wasserman 6-2, 6-1. In the second match, Sakalauskas put up a good fight, taking Yale’s Andrew Heller to three sets. Sakalauskas won the opening set 7-6(3), but fell in a close second set 7-5. In the super tiebreak, Heller held on to win it 10-6.
George Cartledge opened the day with a hard-fought win over Wood Benton of South Carolina. After giving up the first set 6-3, Cartledge came back to win the next one in exciting fashion as the two went into a tiebreak before Cartledge secured it 7-6(11). The Tech player went on to win the super tiebreak 10-8. In the second match of the day Cartledge fell to Buffalo’s Ethan Nittolo 6-1, 6-1.
The Hokies will wrap up the Ivy Plus on Sunday.
