Harper advances to quarterfinals at Milwaukee Classic

MILWUAKEE – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team wraps up the first day of the 42nd Annual Milwaukee Classic, picking up several wins on Friday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Virginia Tech’s No. 122 Mitch Harper opened the day with a 4-0 walkover against Dylan Bednarczyk of Nebraska. He then picked up the win against ODU’s Michael Weindl in the second round, taking the first set 7-6, but faltered in the second, 3-6 before rallying to finish out with a strong 6-0 third set.
In his first round, Alex Riberio had a victory against Toby Boyer of Nebraska, defeating the Cornhusker 7-5, 6-2. Ribeiro battled in the second round against 66th-ranked Josh Silverstein of Iowa. After winning the first round 7-5, Ribeiro faltered in the next two, 6-0, 6-4.
Tech will be back on the court at 8 a.m Saturday.
