Hokies advance on day one at Ivy Plus

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team advanced in singles and doubles draws on Friday during the opening day of the 2017 Ivy Plus Invitational hosted by Princeton.

Friday’s action saw one round of singles and two rounds of doubles as the Hokies moved on in two singles draws while also advancing to the finals of the Black draw.

Jason Kros moved on in the Tiger draw singles as he defeated UNC Asheville’s Henry Patten with straight set scores of 6-3, 7-6(2). Freshman Chase Bernstine also had success in the opening round, picking up the 7-6(6), 6-4 win over Princeton’s Kial Kaiser in the Nassau draw.

On the doubles side, Jason Kros paired up with his freshman brother Ryan with the pair moving into the finals of the Black draw. In the opening round, the duo picked up the 8-2 decision over Dartmouth’s Charlie Broom and Dan Martin. They followed that up with an 8-7 win over Galen Lee and Jean Thirouin of Harvard.

Virginia Tech will be back on the court Saturday for two rounds of singles.
