Asaba wins flight at Southern Intercollegiates
Tech sophomore takes DIII flight

ATHENS, Ga. – Sophomore Abraham Asaba claimed the DIII singles flight title on Sunday afternoon at the 50th Annual Southern Intercollegiates in Athens, Georgia.
Asaba got the day started in the semifinal round with a hard-fought win over Georgia Gwinnett’s Patrik Hartmeier. After taking the first set 6-4, Asaba faltered in the second by the same score. In the finals set, Asaba rallied to win it 6-4.
In the final round, Asaba squared off against Georgia State’s Bailey Showers, who had defeated Asaba’s teammate Ryan Kros in the semifinal round 5-7, 6-3, 6-3. Asaba gave up the opening set to Showers 2-6, but battled back to win the next two 6-2, 6-3.
Feliksas Sakalauskas also picked up a win on Sunday, defeating Georgia’s Sam Dromsky in the DII singles consolation flight.
The Hokies will be back on the court starting Sept. 20-24 at the Milwaukee Classic in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Sept. 22-24 at the Ivy Plus in Princeton, New Jersey.
