Two Hokies advance to flight semifinals at Southern Intercollegiates

ATHENS, Ga. – Sophomore Abraham Asaba and freshman Ryan Kros continued their solid play on Saturday at the 50th Annual Southern Intercollegiates, advancing into the semifinals of the DIII flight.

Asaba defeated Georgia State’s Kevin Huynh with straight set scores of 6-2, 6-3 to move into Sunday’s semifinal round of the DIII singles flight. He will face Patrik Hartmeier of Georgia Gwinnett in the next round.

Newcomer Kros knocked off fellow ACC foe Santiago Salazar of Louisville. In the first set the two batted to a tiebreak that Kros secured 7-6(4) before rolling to a 6-1 win in the second set.

Mitch Harper also picked up a win on Saturday, defeating Georgia’s Alex Phillips 6-1, 6-4 in the consolation round of the DI singles flight. Feliksas Sakalauskas also had a win in the consolation round of the DII flight, knocking off Lander’s Philippe Corteau 7-5, 6-3.

Play will continue on Sunday starting at 9 a.m. with doubles. Singles action will start at approximately 10:15 a.m.
