BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will take the court this weekend as the Hokies travel to Athens, Georgia for the 50th Annual Southern Intercollegiates hosted by UGA at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The Hokies have a strong returning, but young team this season as Mitch Harper, Jason Kros, George Cartledge, Abraham Asaba and Feliksas Sakalauskas will be back on the court for Tech. Freddy Mesmer, Henrik Korsgaard and Alexandre Ribeiro are also back for 2017-18, but will not be in action this weekend.
Chase Bernstine and Carlo Donato along with Ryan Kros, who joins the Hokies and brother Jason for 2017-18, will see their first collegiate action this weekend.
The field will be divided into three singles divisions and two doubles divisions. Play is scheduled to begin Friday at 8 a.m. with the first two rounds of singles matches. Day One action is set to conclude with Divisions I and II doubles.
Donato and Harper will take the court on Friday in the Division I, top-flight of the singles event while Bernstine, Sakalauskas and Jason Kros will be in the Division II flight. Ryan Kros, Asaba and Cartledge are in the Division III flight.
Joining the Hokies and host team UGA at the annual event are student-athletes from: Arkansas, ETSU, FAU, Georgia College, Georgia Gwinnett, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Lander, Louisville, Mercer, UNC Asheville, Ole Miss, Radford, Stetson and Tennessee Tech.
