Hokies open ACC Championship against NC State
Tech enters tournament seeded eighth, will play Pack at 10 a.m. Thursday

BLACKSBURG – The eighth-seeded Virginia Tech men’s tennis team is set to open the 2017 ACC Championship on Thursday, April 26 in a 10 a.m. match against ninth-seeded NC State at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.

THE HOKIES (10-12)
Virginia Tech is coming off a tough 4-2 loss at No. 32 Florida State after five matches went to three sets. The Hokies’ freshmen Henrik Korsgaard and Alexandre Ribeiro won on courts three and four, respectively to get the points for Tech.
Mitch Harper has posted a 13-9 record this spring for the Hokies while Jason Kros is 12-9. Freddy Mesmer is 12-3 with a 7-1 clip in the six. Korsgaard is 8-9 in dual play with a 3-3 tally on court three. Korsgaard is also ranked with teammate Jai Corbett at No. 43 in doubles. The duo is 6-4 at the one. Corbett has also played the one all season in singles and is No. 113 in the latest ITA standings.
THE WOLFPACK (13-14)
NC State fell 5-2 to No. 20 Georgia Tech to wrap up the regular season. The Wolfpack won the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. Igor Savelijic also had a win in singles for State.
Nick Horton leads the Wolfpack ranked No. 74 with a 12-12 tally in duals this spring. Alexis Galarneau is 18-7 and ranked 86th in the ITA. The two are also ranked as a team in doubles at 46th with a 9-6 record. Georgiy Malyshev and Igor Saveljic both have 16-10 records in singles this spring.
THE SERIES
Virginia Tech defeated the Wolfpack 4-3 earlier this season in Raleigh. The Hokies won the doubles point and picked up singles wins from Harper, Kros and Mesmer to secure the win. With the victory, the Hokies improved to 17-7 all-time against the Wolfpack.
Up Next: The winner will advance to play top-seeded and the nation’s No. 1 Wake Forest on Friday at 10 a.m.
