Hokies wrap up regular season in Florida

Tech at Florida State Friday; Miami on Sunday

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will wrap up the 2017 regular season this weekend beginning with a match on Friday, April 21 at No. 32 Florida State. Tech will remain in the Sunshine State to face Miami on Sunday, April 23.

THE HOKIES (10-11, 6-5 ACC)
Virginia Tech is coming off a big 4-3 upset win over No. 18 Georgia Tech. Tied with the Yellow Jackets at 3-3, the deciding match came down to court six where Jason Kros took three sets to defeat Chris Yun, securing the win for the Hokies. The Hokies won the doubles point and picked up singles wins from Mitch Harper and Henrik Korsgaard as well.

Kros has compiled a 12-8 record this spring for Tech while Harper is 13-8. Korsgaard is 7-9 on the year. Freddy Mesmer has posted a 12-3 tally in duals. Korsgaard is ranked along with teammate Jai Corbett at 49th in doubles. The duo is 5-4 at the one. Corbett also enters the rankings in singles at 106th, playing at the one all season.

THE SEMINOLES (15-9, 5-5 ACC)
Florida State split results last weekend on the road, falling to top-ranked Wake Forest 5-2 before defeating NC State by the same margin. The Seminoles won the doubles point and claimed wins from Aziz Dougaz, Guy Iradukunda, Lucas Poullain and Alex Knaff in singles.

Dougaz is ranked 38th for the Noles this week and had a big win over Wake Forest’s then-No. 2 Petros Chrysochos last weekend. Poullain also had a win in the Wake match, defeating No. 14 Skander Mansouri. He appears in this week’s rankings at 94th. Iradukunda is also ranked for FSU at 74th and he joins Dougaz in the doubles standings at 87th.

THE HURRICANES (8-11, 2-8 ACC)
Miami fell to Duke 6-1 the last time out. The Hurricanes picked up the lone point from Piotr Lomacki at the one where he knocked off No. 89 Spencer Furman.

Lomacki is ranked in the ITA at 59th and has tallied an 11-7 mark in duals. Jesse Flores and Max Andrews are 50th in the doubles standings with a 7-6 record this spring.
