Hokies host No. 18 Georgia Tech in home finale

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will wrap up the 2017 home slate on Saturday, April 15, hosting No. 18 Georgia Tech in a 10:30 match at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. The Hokies will honor senior Jai Corbett prior to the start of the match.

THE HOKIES (9-11, 3-6 ACC)
Virginia Tech is coming off a 4-3 win over VCU last weekend. The Hokies took the doubles point to get out to the early lead. Freddy Mesmer and Jason Kros won on courts five and six, respectively to push the lead to 3-1, but VCU won the next two to tie it up. Mitch Harper secured the point needed in three sets on court two.

Mesmer and Kros have been solid for the Hokies all season with Mesmer holding a 12-2 tally and Kros an 11-8 mark. Harper is 12-8 this spring. Corbett enters the match ranked 114th after playing the one all season. He is also ranked in doubles at 60th with teammate Henrik Korsgaard. The pair have a 5-3 record on court one.

THE YELLOW JACKETS (15-4, 7-2 ACC)
Georgia Tech fell to No. 3 Virginia 6-1 on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets got the point to prevent the shutout from Daniel Yun on court six as he defeated J.C. Aragone in straight sets.

Leading the Yellow Jackets is 5th-ranked Christopher Eubanks with a 13-1 record at the one this season. Andrew Li is 104th with a 9-5 mark. Carlos Benito and Carlos Divar both come in at 10-5 while Yun is 10-4. Divar and Benito are ranked in doubles at 73rd with a 7-4 record, including 5-1 on two.

THE SERIES
The Hokies hold the edge in the all-time series at 9-8, but the Yellow Jackets won last season’s meeting in Atlanta 6-1. Former Virginia Tech player Andreas Bjerrehus won the match on two for the point.

UP NEXT: The Hokies will go on the road for the Florida swing, beginning with Florida State on Friday, April 21. Virginia Tech will wrap up the regular-season on Sunday, April 23 at Miami.
