Hokies falter at No. 35 Louisville, 5-2

The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team fell on the road at ACC foe, 35th-ranked Louisville, 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Tech (8-10, 3-5 ACC) came out and picked up the doubles point to get on the board early in the day. Jai Corbett and Henrik Korsgaard paired up at one where they knocked off the nation’s 22nd-ranked pair of Sean Donohue and Parker Wynn, 6-2.
The Hokies secured the point on court three with Jason Kros and Freddy Mesmer pairing up for the 6-3 win over Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Ciro Lampasas.
Louisville (16-4, 4-2 ACC) got on the board at three, but Mesmer pushed the Hokies lead to 2-1 with a win at six. The Tech junior downed Donohue 6-2, 6-3.
Tech fell in straight sets on five as Louisville tied it at 2-2, but the Hokies battled to three on courts one, two and four. On one Corbett forced Morin-Kougoucheff to a third set. After giving up the first set 6-3, Corbett blanked the Cardinals player in the second 6-0, but the Kougoucheff rallied to win the third 6-4.
Alexandre Ribeiro also forced the match to three at four. He fell to George Hedley 6-4 in the opening set, but came back to win the second 6-2. Hedley answered, winning the third 6-4.
The final match played out on two where Mitch Harper won the opening set 6-1 before Nicolas Rouanet claimed the next two 7-6, 6-0.
Virginia Tech will return to the court on Friday, April 7 at in-state rival Virginia in a 3 p.m. match.
