Hokies set for two ACC weekend matches

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team is slated for a pair of ACC matches this weekend, beginning with Clemson on Friday, March 31. The Tigers will travel to the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center for a noon match. Tech will take to the road for a noon match on Sunday, April 2 at No. 35 Louisville.

THE HOKIES (7-9, 2-4 ACC)
Virginia Tech is coming off a 7-1 win over Boston College. The Hokies claimed the doubles point and won five of the six singles matches. Tech clinched the team win on court two with a victory from Mitch Harper.

Harper is having a solid season with a 10-6 record. Freddy Mesmer has a 9-1 tally while Jason Kros is 9-6. Jai Corbett is 82nd in the ITA singles standings and is 6-8 at the one this year.

THE TIGERS (8-9, 1-4 ACC)
Clemson fell to NC State 5-2 the last time out and is 1-9 in the last 10 matches. The Tigers got points against the Wolfpack with wins from Carlos Kelaidis and Sam Edwards at five and four, respectively.

Kelaidis is 8-4 this spring. Robert Dudley has a tally of 7-7 and Dafra Sanon is 7-10. Alex Favrot is 6-8 at the one.

THE CARDINALS (13-4, 3-2 ACC)
Louisville defeated Belmont 5-2 last weekend. The Cardinals dropped the doubles point, but rallied to win on courts two through six in singles.

The Cardinals’ duo of Parker Wynn and Sean Donohue enter the match ranked 22nd in the ITA and are 12-1 this spring. Wynn also leads the charge in singles at 13-3, including a 9-1 tally at two. Brandon Lancaster is 12-4, playing in the bottom half of the lineup. Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff has a 7-5 mark at one.

THE SERIES
Tech trails in the all-time series against Clemson 9-11. However, the Hokies have won the previous two meetings including a 5-2 decision last year in Clemson.

The series is even against Louisville at 11-11. Tech has also won the previous two meetings in this series and claimed the 6-1 decision in 2016.

Up Next: The Hokies travel to in-state rival Virginia on Friday, April 7 for a 3 p.m. match. Tech will remain on the road for a Sunday match at VCU.
