No. 38 Notre Dame outlasts Hokies 4-3

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team battled 38th-ranked Notre Dame on Friday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. The teams were tied at 3-3 with the deciding match on four where the Irish held on for the 4-3 team win.

On court four, Tech’s Henrik Korsgaard took the opening set 6-3 before Matt Gamble came back to win the second 6-4. In the final set, Korsgaard fell behind 5-2, but powered back with a break to tie it up at 5-5. The Notre Dame player scored on serve to make it 6-5 and broke Korsgaard for the 7-5 win.

The Hokies trailed after the doubles point and trailed 2-0 before Jason Kros got Tech on the board with a 6-2, 6-3 win at six. Tech tied it up off Freddy Mesmer on five where he defeated Grayson Broadus 6-2, 6-4.

Tech’s final point came at three where Mitch Harper took Alex Lebedev to three sets. After giving up the first set, 6-3, Harper rallied to win the next two 6-4, 6-3.

Virginia Tech will return to the court on Sunday, March 26, hosting Boston College in a noon match at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
