Hokies travel to top-ranked Wake Forest

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will travel to top-ranked Wake Forest on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. match.

THE HOKIES (6-7, 1-2 ACC)
Virginia Tech defeated NC State 4-3 over the weekend before falling to No. 4 North Carolina 4-3. Mitch Harper and Freddy Mesmer claimed wins in both matches. Jason Kros tallied a singles’ win against the Wolfpack and Henrik Korsgaard picked up the victory versus the Tar Heels. The Hokies also secured the doubles point at State.

Mesmer has posted a 7-0 record this spring while Harper is 7-5. Kros comes into the match at 6-5. Jai Corbett is 4-6 and is ranked 74th in the ITA. Korsgaard is ranked 107th and is 4-4 on the spring.

THE DEMON DEACONS (14-1, 2-0 ACC)
Wake Forest got a 4-3 road win over No. 12 Georgia the last time out. The Deacons dropped the doubles point but secured the team win as Petros Chrysochos, Borna Goja, Skander Mansouri and Alan Gadjiev tallied points in singles.

Chrysochos is ranked No. 2 in the ITA and has a 12-2 record this spring including an 11-2 mark at the one. Mansouri comes into the standings at No. 5 with a 9-5 tally this spring while Gojo is 12-2 and ranked 76th.

THE SERIES
Virginia Tech trails 24-17 in the all-time series and the Deacs won last season’s contest 4-3. Harper had a win on five for the Hokies in 2016 along with former Tech players Amerigo Contini and Edoardo Tessaro.

Up Next: The Hokies return to Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center to host Notre Dame on Friday, March 24 at 3 p.m. Tech will host Boston College in a noon match on Sunday, March 26.
