Hokies host Charleston in first Playsight Playfair dual match Tuesday

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will become the first university in the country to host a Playsight Playfair spring dual match on Tuesday, Feb. 21 when the Hokies host College of Charleston at 1:30 p.m.

The technology has been utilized in the past for tournament competition and USC used it in the fall for the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships. It allows every player using a Playsight SmartCourt to challenge and review close line calls. By utilizing PlaySight’s multiple camera angles, players can cut down on cheating and gain more confidence with line calls, knowing that the video is there to back them up. The Hokies' Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center features six indoor courts that have Playsight technology.

The student-athletes will be allowed two challenges per set. If they win the challenge, the player keeps it, but if they incorrectly challenge it is lost for the remainder of the set. Challenges will be allowed for out-of-bounds calls.
