Hokies host doubleheader in spring home opener
Tech plays St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m.; Davidson at 5 p.m.

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will open the home spring slate on Saturday hosting a doubleheader against St. Bonaventure and Davidson. Tech will take on the Bonnies at 1 p.m. followed by the Wildcats at 5 p.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

THE HOKIES (0-3)
Virginia Tech is coming off strong showing in Austin, Texas last weekend when Tech was edged by 10th-ranked Texas, 4-3. However, the Hokies picked up a pair of wins against ranked foes in singles action. Jai Corbett took down the nation’s 6th-ranked player in Christian Sigsgaard while Henrik Korsgaard defeated No. 36 Yuya Ito. With the wins both players entered this week’s rankings at 37th and 85th, respectively. Alexandre Ribeiro also tallied a point for the Hokies against the Longhorns.
THE BONNIES (3-2)
St. Bonaventure is coming off a 7-0 loss to Penn State the last time out. The Bonnies’ Indra Patwardhan has a 4-1 record this spring at the four while Victor Blanco is 3-2 in the one. Hector Martinez is also 3-2 seeing time at the two.
THE WILDCATS (6-1)
Davidson is on a five-match win streak and last defeated North Carolina A&T 7-0. The lone loss for the Wildcats came against Clemson with the Tigers taking the match 6-1. David Hager claimed the point for the Wildcats against Clemson on court two. Hager is 7-0 on the season at the two while Shamael Chaudhry is 5-2 on court one.
Up Next: The Hokies will be back on the court on Tuesday, Feb. 21 hosting College of Charleston at 1:30 p.m.
