BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech duo of Jai Corbett and Alex Ribeiro teamed up to advance to the final round of the 2016 ITA Atlantic region doubles draw at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Corbett and Ribeiro paired up in the morning to face Penn State’s duo of Christian Lutschaunig and Gabriel Nemeth. The Tech duo downed the Nittany Lion pair 6-3, 6-2.
In singles matches, Corbett rallied to pick up a hard fought quarterfinal win over PSU’s Christian Lakoseljac. Corbett gave up the first set 6-3, but came to win the next two with scores of 6-3.
In the semifinal round, Corbett faced UVA’s JC Aragone. The pair went into a tiebreak in the opening set, with Aragone holding on to win it 7-6(2). In the second set Aragone was too much as he claimed the win 6-2.
Ribeiro was also on the court for singles, taking a 6-1, 6-4 quarterfinal win over Old Dominion’s Michael Weindl. In the semis, Ribeiro faltered to Richmond’s Jacob Dunbar 6-4, 6-0.
The Hokies will be on the court at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday for the final round of doubles.
