BLACKSBURG – Senior Jai Corbett and freshman Alexandre Ribeiro continued strong play at the ITA Atlantic Regional, picking up wins in singles and doubles to advance into Monday’s quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

The Hokies advanced into Monday’s doubles semifinal round with Corbett and Ribeiro pairing up for the win over VCU’s Vitor Lima and Philip Moebius, defeating the Rams’ duo 8-5 to open the day.

Corbett continued strong play into singles where he claimed two wins to move into tomorrow’s quarterfinal round. Corbett knocked off George Washington’s Dennis Afanasev 6-0, 6-3. He followed that up with a 7-6(3), 6-4 victory over Aws Laaribi of Penn State.

Ribeiro also had a solid day, picking up a pair of wins in singles to move into the quarterfinals. The Tech player opened with a win over Gabriel Nemeth 6-4, 6-1. Ribeiro followed up with a hard-fought win over George Washington’s Julius Tverijonas. After winning the first set 6-2, Ribeiro battled in the second to outlast Tverijonas in the tiebreak 7-6(4).

The Hokies will be back on the court at 9:30 a.m. Monday for the next round of doubles.
