BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team is set to open the 2016 ITA Atlantic Regional on Friday in main draw singles and doubles at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Virginia Tech is hosting players from 21 teams from around the region including Duquesne, Georgetown, George Washington, George Mason, Hampton, Howard, James Madison, LaSalle, Liberty, Longwood, Navy, Old Dominion, Penn State, Radford, Richmond, Saint Joseph’s, Temple, VCU, Villanova, Virginia and William & Mary.
Taking the court for the Hokies in singles is fifth-seeded Alexandre Ribeiro, eighth-seeded Jai Corbett and 10th-seed Mitch Harper who are joined by 17-32 seeds Freddy Mesmer and George Cartledge. Also in action will be Jason Kros and Henrik Korsgaard.
In doubles, the Hokies’ duo of Corbett and Ribeiro enter as the No. 2 seeded team. Harper and Mesmer will pair up as the fifth-seed. Cartledge and Kros will also take to the court for doubles competition.
This year Friday and Saturday matches will also be on court at the Cassell Courts located adjacent to the Hahn-Hurst Basketball Practice Facility on Washington Street.
The tournament kicked off on Thursday with the qualifying singles round with eight players advancing into the main draw.
