Hokies wrap up play at Southern Intercollegiates
Tech has wins in singles and doubles on final day

ATHENS, Ga. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team wrapped up the third day of competition at the 49th Annual Southern Intercollegiates on Sunday at the Dan Magill Tennis Center in Athens, Ga.

The Hokies had a couple of wins, including Jai Corbett claiming his second win over a ranked opponent this weekend. Corbett defeated Tennessee’s 46th-ranked Luis Valero with straight set scores of 7-6, 7-6 in the Division I flight consolation draw.

Alex Ribeiro knocked off UCF’s Harrison Richmond, who most recently played at rival Virginia. Ribeiro claimed the opening set 6-3 before faltering in the second 4-6. He rallied to win the super tiebreak 10-4, securing the match.

In doubles, Ribeiro paired up with George Cartledge in the Division II main draw where the pair defeated Lander’s duo of Ozan Cildir and Omar El-Mosleymany, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Tech pair fell in the quarterfinal round to Georgia State’s Jack MacFarlane and Felipe Jaworski 6-2.
