GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech senior men’s tennis player Andreas Bjerrehus has been named the ACC Player of the Week as announced Tuesday by the league office.
Bjerrehus went undefeated on the weekend, claiming a pair of ranked wins in singles. The senior trailed 5-1 in the opening set to UVA’s second-ranked Thai-Son Kwiatkowski before rallying to tie it up at 6-6 and force the tiebreaker. The two were knotted at 6-6 in the breaker, but Bjerrehus scored the final two points to secure the set 8-6. In the second set, Bjerrehus led at 5-2 before Kwiatkowski retired. Bjerrehus also defeated NC State’s 83rd-ranked Simon Norenius in straight sets with scores of 6-3, 6-1 to help the Hokies to a 6-1 decision over the Wolfpack.
In addition, Bjerrehus paired up with teammate Joao Monteiro for a win in doubles as the duo defeated NC State’s Ivan Saveljic and Michael Ogden in the No. 1 to help the Hokies secure the doubles point. The pair led in the tiebreaker against UVA’s Luca Corinteli and Ryan Shane, but the match went unfinished once the doubles point had been decided.
This marks Bjerrehus’ third Player of the Week honor in his career.
