CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team wrapped up a solid second day at the UVA Ranked +1 on Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Virginia Tech’s duo of Andreas Bjerrehus and Joao Monteiro claimed the blue flight title on Saturday, defeating ETSU’s David Biosca and Rogerio Ribeiro 8-4.
Tech’s third-seeded Monteiro also had a good day in singles, picking up a pair of wins. Monteiro battled to three sets in both matches, starting with host-team UVA’s JC Aragone. After taking the first set, 6-3, Monteiro faltered in the second, getting shut-out 6-0. The Tech player came back strong in the third to win it 6-4.
In his second match of the day, Monteiro again squared off against a player from the host team, this time versus Henrik Wiersholm. Monteiro won the opening set 6-2, but gave up the second 6-4 before coming back in the third to secure it 6-3.
In the orange singles, top-seeded Bjerrehus fell on the opening day of competition, moving into the back draw, but rallied on Saturday to win two matches. Bjerrehus downed Wake Forest’s Christian Seraphim 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. In the next match, Bjerrehus faced fourth-seeded Biosca. After giving up the opening set, 7-5, Bjerrehus came back to win the next two with scores of 6-3, 6-2.
The Hokies will wrap up the UVA Ranked +1 on Sunday with competition beginning at 10 a.m.
