Hokies advance at UVA Ranked+1
Tech moves on in singles and doubles

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team advanced to the flight finals in doubles early in the day before moving on in three of its singles matches during the opening day at the UVA Ranked+1 Invitational in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Tech’s second-seeded duo of Andreas Bjerrehus and Joao Monteiro opened up the day with a win over Wake Forest’s Keivon Tabrizi and Jonathan Ho, 8-2. The pair followed that up by defeating North Florida’s 50th-ranked doubles tandem of Jack Findel-Hawkins and Yannick Zuem, 8-6.

In singles, Jai Corbett moved on in the blue draw. Corbett picked up the opening set over Catalin Fifea 6-3 before falling 6-2 in the second. The Tech player came back strong to take the final set 6-3 for the win.

The Hokies’ third-seeded Monteiro also advanced in the blue draw with a win over Miami’s Max Andrews, 7-5(3), 6-2.

In the orange draw, Aaron Gomez won the first set over ETSU’s 88th-ranked David Biosca, 7-5, but Biosca ralled to take the second 6-3. Gomez responded to win the third, 6-3 to move on.

The Hokies will be back on the court at 10 a.m. for the final round of doubles, followed by two rounds of singles.
