GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Hunter Koontz and junior Andreas Bjerrehus picked up more accolades on Wednesday, being named to the 2015 All-ACC Academic Men’s Tennis Team as announced by the conference office.
Koontz, a finance and accounting major, had a strong senior campaign for the Hokies, earning his first national ranking this season after compiling an impressive 19-2 record in dual play. He finishes the season 113th nationally and eighth regionally. This season marked the first All-ACC team honors for Koontz while this is his third nod to the academic team. Koontz was also named the ITA Atlantic Region Most Improved (Senior) Player.
Bjerrehus, a management major, finished the season ranked 52nd nationally and fifth in the region after representing the Hokies at the NCAA Men’s Singles Championship. He tallied a 25-12 record and was 17-7 in duals. The Tech junior earned All-ACC Men’s Tennis honors for the third straight season as well as claiming a spot on the academic team for the third year. In addition, Bjerrehus was tabbed the ITA Atlantic Region Player to Watch.
Twelve ACC schools are represented on this year’s All-ACC Academic Team, led by Virginia with five honorees. Florida State and Louisville had three representatives each, while Clemson, Duke, Miami, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest had two members apiece. Georgia Tech, North Carolina and NC State rounded out the field with one each.

Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
