WACO, TEXAS – Virginia Tech junior Andreas Bjerrehus was eliminated in the opening round of the 2015 NCAA Men’s Singles Championship on Wednesday at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
Ohio State’s 50th-ranked Chris Diaz defeated 43rd-ranked Bjerrehus in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(6).
Diaz took the first set 6-4, but Bjerrehus came back strong in the second for a 6-2 win to even it up and force the third. The two kept it close in the final set and were knotted at 6-6 to go into the tiebreaker. Bjerrehus battled Diaz, but the Buckeye player was able to hold on to win it 8-6 to move into the second round.
Bjerrehus finishes the season with a 25-12 record and was 17-7 in duals. The Tech junior earned All-ACC Men’s Tennis honors for the third straight season.
