BLACKSBURG – The NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Subcommittee has tabbed junior Andreas Bjerrehus as one of 64 singles players that will compete in the 2015 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championships hosted by Baylor, May 20-25 in Waco, Texas.
Bjerrehus, ranked 37th in the ITA standings, is making his first trip to the NCAA singles event after putting together a strong season for the Hokies. Playing in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles for Tech this season, Bjerrehus has tallied a 16-6 record, including seven wins over nationally ranked foes this season. Bjerrehus is 12-2 at the No. 2 and has posted a 24-10 overall record dating back to fall tournament play.
The Aarhus, Denmark native joins 14 Hokies who have represented Tech in the past at the NCAA singles event. Virginia Tech has sent someone to the singles tournament every season since 2008 and has had a representative in 12 of the last 13 seasons. Seedings will be announced next week.
Prior to the start of the singles event, Bjerrehus will join his teammates in hosting the opening rounds of the 2015 NCAA team championships as the Hokies earned the No. 15 seed in this year’s tournament. Tech will face ETSU in the opening round while USF and Boise State are also making the trip to Blacksburg. Tournament play will begin on Friday, May 8 at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
