GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech junior 74th-ranked Andreas Bjerrehus has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week.

Bjerrehus picked up wins in both singles and doubles on the weekend as the 44th-ranked Hokies defeated 23rd-ranked Notre Dame, 4-3 and 2nd-ranked Duke, 6-1. Against the Irish, Bjerrehus teamed up with Amerigo Contini to take down the 19th-ranked tandem of Eddy Covalschi and Josh Hagar. He followed that up with a 6-3, 6-3 win over 102nd-ranked Hagar in the No. 2 singles. In the Duke match, Bjerrehus stepped up to the No. 1 singles and picked up a big win, defeating 8th-ranked Nicolas Alvarez in straight sets, 7-6(7), 6-4, breaking Alvarez’s serve in the second set to claim the final point. The win in the No. 1 gave the Hokies a 3-1 advantage over the Blue Devils before the match was secured with the win on court four.

The Hokies will be back on the court on Friday, March 13 when they host Boston College at 1:30 p.m.
