BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 34th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team is set to play Marquette on Saturday, Jan. 31 in a 1 p.m. neutral site match at the Boonsboro Country Club in Lynchburg, Va.
Tech (3-1) is coming off a weekend in which the Hokies split decisions at the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Hokies downed then 36th-ranked Alabama 4-1 before falling to seventh-ranked UNC, 4-1.
Junior Amerigo Contini enters the match ranked 35th in the ITA standings and has compiled a 3-0 record in the No. 1 this season. He is joined in the rankings by Andreas Bjerrehus at 61st who has a 2-1 record in the No. 2. Florian Nicoud, ranked 94th, is 2-1 in dual play. Hunter Koontz has also been strong for the Hokies this spring, sitting at 3-0 while Jai Corbett and Joao Monteiro are both 2-0.
Marquette (1-1) defeated IUPUI 7-0 in the team’s last outing. Andrea Romanello has the best record for the Golden Eagles so far this season at 2-0. Vukasin Teofanovic plays in the No. 1 for Marquette and has posted a 1-1 mark in duals while Daniel Fernandez is 1-1 in the No. 2.
The Hokies will return home to host Penn State on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. in Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
