BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech’s 38th-ranked men’s tennis team shut out Coastal Carolina, 7-0, on Saturday morning at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

The Hokies started the day off, claiming the doubles point. On court two, Amerigo Contini and Jai Corbett defeated Renan Samed and Garik Yedigarian 6-3 for the first win of the day. In the No. 1, Andreas Bjerrehus and Hunter Koontz defeated Kaue Pereira and Phillipe Tsangarides 6-4 to clinch the first point.

In singles, No. 35 ranked Contini defeated Tsangarides 6-2, 6-0 for the second point of the day, claiming the win on court one. Bjerrehus, ranked No. 61, followed up the first singles victory by defeating Pereira 6-3, 6-1 on court two to put the Hokies up 3-0 in the match.

Edoardo Tessaro clinched the victory for the Hokies on court five, downing Jabor Al-Mutawa in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 5.

On court four, Koontz defeated Vuk Velickovic 6-4, 6-3. After winning a tiebreak in the first set, No. 94 ranked Florian Nicoud went on to defeat No. 119 ranked Samed 7-5, 6-2 to put the Hokies up 6-0.

Joao Monteiro finished off a great morning for the Hokies. After dropping the first set, Monteiro came back to defeat Yedigarian 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 to secure the sweep.

The Hokies return to action this afternoon at 3 p.m. to take on JMU here in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
