ORLANDO, Fla. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team wrapped up the 2014 USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational on Saturday at the ESPN Wild World of Sports at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
Florian Nicoud took on host team Florida State’s Jake Aldbo. Nicoud took the first set, 6-3, but Albo came back in the second to win 6-3. The Hokies’ player rallied in the tiebreaker for the 1-0 (10-6) victory, securing the match.
Aaron Gomez also claimed a win for the Hokies, defeating Stetson’s Loic Bianco in straight sets with scores of 6-1, 6-1.
George Cartledge won the opening set 7-5 over South Alabama’s Manuel Belda, but Belda held on for the 7-5 win in the second. Cartledge dispatched of Belda in the tiebreaker 1-0 (10-6).
Tech will wrap up fall tournament play when Amerigo Contini travels to Flushing, N.Y., Nov. 6-9, to compete in the ITA National Indoor Championships after qualifying in singles.
