Hokies advance in singles at USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational
Three move on in men's tennis main singles

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team had three players advance into Friday’s second round of singles at the 2014 USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational at ESPN Wild World of Sports at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Hunter Koontz, who took to the court for the first time this fall after coming back from an injury, defeated Stetson’s Laurynas Antropikas in straight sets with scores of 6-2, 7-5.

The Hokies seeded player, Joao Monteiro, battled in a three-set match against Clemson’s Alejandro Augusto. After dropping the first set, 7-5, Monteiro battled back to hold off Augusto in the second, 7-5. Monteiro ran away with it in the third with a score of 6-2.

Jai Corbett also advanced for the Hokies, dispatching of USF’s Reece Acree, 6-2, 6-1.

The Hokies will be back on the court on Friday in the next round of singles. Competition is slated to begin at 8 a.m.
