BLACKSBURG, Va. – Several members of the Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will make the trip to Orlando, Florida this weekend for the 2014 USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational held at the ESPN Wild World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World.
Representing the Hokies are George Cartledge, Jai Corbett, Aaron Gomez, Hunter Koontz, Joao Monteiro, Florian Nicoud and Rafael Ribas.
The event will be viewable on ESPN3 as well as the WatchESPN app. With Thursday’s center court matches and Sunday’s finals, both at the Wide World of Sports, being broadcast live from the on-site production studio. In all, 20 hours of coverage will take place over the weekend.
Joining the Hokies in the event are host-team Florida State, Auburn, Clemson, Colubmia, Florida, Georgia Tech, Miami, Penn State, Princeton, South Alabama, Stetson and UCF.
Monteiro has earned a 9-16 seed in the tournament and will take on Stetson’s Nathan Debut in the opening round. Gomez will face seeded (9-16) Marko Krickovic of Auburn. The Hokies’ doubles tandem of Gomez and Ribas are scheduled to square off against third-seeded Matt Barry and Alex Fennell of Penn State.

Competition is slated to begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30 with the opening rounds of singles and doubles. The finals will be held on Sunday, Nov. 2.
