CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior Amerigo Contini moved into the final round of singles on Monday at the 2014 ITA Atlantic Regional at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Contini faced teammate Florian Nicoud in the quarterfinal round, defeating the Tech sophomore 6-4, 7-6(5).
In the semifinals, Contini battled against George Washington’s 91st-ranked Francisco Dias. Contini claimed the first set, 6-4. Dias came back and held on to win the second 7-6(5). In the final set it was Contini’s turn to take the tiebreaker, 7-6(4), securing the match to move into the finals.
Contini will face UVA’s 28th-ranked Ryan Shane in the finals on Tuesday. Shane defeated the Hokies’ 58th-ranked Andreas Bjerrehus in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 6-4.
Tech also had a pair on the court in doubles today as Joao Monteiro and Jai Corbett paired up to take on UMBC’s Alex Drean and Daniel Gray. The Retrievers’ pair picked up the win 6-3, 7-5.
Singles will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Snyder Tennis Center.
