CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis continues its run, advancing to the quarterfinals in singles and the semifinals in doubles on Sunday at the 2014 ITA Atlantic Regional in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The Hokies’ 14th-ranked Amerigo Contini advanced with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Penn State’s Alex Fennell on Sunday to move into the quarterfinal round. He will meet a familiar face in teammate Florian Nicoud.

Nicoud pulled the upset on Sunday, defeating UVA’s 74th-ranked Mac Styslinger. After dropping the first set 6-4, Nicoud came back to hold on and take the second 7-5. Nicoud claimed the 6-4 win in the third to set up the meeting with Contini.

Tech’s 58th-ranked Andreas Bjerrehus also advanced after taking the 6-3, 6-0 decision against Old Dominion’s Theophile Lanthiez. Bjerrehus will face UVA’s 28th-ranked Ryan Shane in the quarterfinals.

In doubles, Joao Monteiro teamed up with Jai Corbett. The Tech duo dispatched Duquesne’s Richie Robbie and Corey Robinson, 8-7(5). Monteiro and Corbett will square off against UMBC’s Alex Drean and Daniel Gray in the semifinals.

Monday's play begins at 10 a.m. with the quarterfinals and semifinals of singles, followed by the semifinals of doubles. Admission to the tournament is free at the Snyder Tennis Center. In case of inclement weather, play will be moved indoors to the Boar's Head Sports Club.
