Nicoud takes flight title at UVA Fall Classic
Tech sophomore wins singles in Charlottesville

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia Tech men’s tennis sophomore Florian Nicoud takes the white singles flight on Sunday afternoon at the UVA Fall Classic in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Nicoud claimed the 6-1, 6-1 win over JMU’s Brett Moorhead in the semifinals of the flight. In the final round, Nicoud defeated Cornell’s Colin Sinclair, 7-5, 6-3.

In the blue singles, Jai Corbett defeated host team UVA’s Jonny Cornish, 7-6, 6-3 to advance to the finals. Corbett fell to Bucknell’s Nic Bybell in a three-set match, 3-6, 6-3, 10-2 in the finals to finish second in the flight.

Rafael Ribas finished fifth in the red singles, defeating Radford’s Jose Manzano, 6-4, 7-5. He followed that up with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Daniel Guitierrez of George Mason.

The Hokies will be back on the court Oct. 16-21 at the ITA Atlantic Regionals at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Ribas (VT) def. Daniel Gutierrez (GMU) 6-3, 7-5
