TULSA, Okla. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team wraps up competition at the 2014 ITA Men’s Tennis All-American Championships on Friday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In the main draw singles, Tech’s 58th-ranked Andreas Bjerrehus fell to 22nd-ranked Leandro Toledo of Minnesota. The Gopher’s player claimed the 6-2, 6-2 win to advance.
In the consolation draw, the Hokies’ 14th-ranked Amerigo Contini battled Southern Cal’s 33rd-ranked Robert Quiroz to three sets. After dropping the first set 6-4, Contini came back to take the second set in the tiebreaker, 7-6(5). Quiroz clinched the match, however, winning the third set 6-4.
The two teamed up in the doubles consolation to face No. 2 Tim Kopinski and Ross Guigon of Illinos. Tech’s 17th-ranked pair fell 7-5, 6-3.
Tech also has several players competing at the UVA Fall Classic this weekend, but the Hokies will return to the court at the ITA Atlantic Regionals, Oct. 16-21 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
