Bjerrehus to play in main draw at ITA All-American
Hokies junior will join fellow classmate Contini in main draws beginning Thursday

TULSA, Okla. – Junior Andreas Bjerrehus fell in the final round of qualifying singles, but has been selected to continue competition into the singles main draw at the 2014 ITA Men’s Tennis All-American at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Tech’s 58th-ranked Bjerrehus faced Louisville’s Albert Wagner in the final round of the qualifying singles on Wednesday. After picking up the 6-4 win in the opening set, Bjerrehus gave up the 6-2 decision to Wagner in the second. The Louisville senior claimed the final set 6-2 to move in to the main draw.

As the highest seeded player in the final round, Bjerrehus was also selected to move into an open spot the main draw.

Bjerrehus joins fellow junior Amerigo Contini in the main draw singles. Contini is ranked 14th in the ITA heading into the tournament. He finished third at the UVA Ranked+1 his last time on the court and looks to have a favorable seeding for the All-American event.

The pair will also team up in the main draw doubles. Entering the season, Bjerrehus and Contini are ranked 17th in the ITA. The duo has seen quite a bit of success since first taking the court together during their freshmen seasons, having represented Tech in doubles the past two years at the ITA Indoor National Championships. The pair has a 33-19 career record. Most recently Bjerrehus and Contini paired up to take the flight title at the UVA Ranked+1 event.
