Monteiro wins title at Ivy Plus
Hokies junior takes singles flight
Virginia Tech Men's Tennis Updated Draws

PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior Joao Monteiro wrapped up the Ivy Plus on Sunday, taking the title in the Nassau Draw singles at the Lenz Tennis Center in Princeton, New Jersey.

Monteiro defeated Stefan Vinti of Cornell in the finals of the draw. After falling in the opening set 6-1, Monteiro rallied back to take the second set 6-3. The third set was a battle between the two, but Monteiro held on for the 7-5 win.

George Cartledge had a singles win on Sunday in an unscheduled match, defeating Miami’s Henrique Tsukamoto, 7-6(2), 6-2.

Cartledge paired up with Florian Nicoud in a doubles match as the Tech duo defeated Brown’s Aaron Sandberg and Peter Tarwid, 8-5.

The Hokies will be back on the court for the ITA Men’s All-America Championships, Sept. 27-Oct. 5.
