Monteiro moves in to finals at Ivy Plus
Nicoud wins consolation draw
Virginia Tech Men's Tennis Updated Draws

PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior Joao Monteiro continued strong play for the Virginia Tech men's tennis team, advancing in to the singles finals on the second day of the Ivy Plus in Princeton, New Jersey.

Monteiro claimed a pair of wins in the Nassau Draw singles, defeating Buffalo’s Damian David in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 to move in to the semifinal round. In the next round, Monteiro defeated Chris Kipouras of Dartmouth 6-4, 7-6(3), advancing in to Sunday’s final round.

Florian Nicoud picked up two victories on Saturday to win the Cordish singles consolation draw. Nicoud downed Sam Lampman of Army 6-0, 6-4 and followed that up with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Nile Clark of Miami to take the title.

In doubles Monteiro and Nicoud teamed up in the Orange Draw for a win over Yale’s Martin Svenning and Ziqi Wang, 8-6. The Tech duo fell to 27th-ranked Alex Lawson and Billy Pecor of Notre Dame in the next round, 8-0.

Tech will wrap up the Ivy Plus as Monteiro takes the court in the finals on Sunday morning at the Lenz Tennis Center.
