BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team has announced its 2014-15 schedule which is highlighted by dual matches against 15 teams that appeared in the final ITA poll last season.
Tech is coming off of its eighth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Hokies finished with a 14-12 overall record last season and posted a 5-6 record in the ACC.
Virginia Tech has a busy fall slate with nine tournaments on the road. The Hokies kicked off the season at the Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, Ga.
The Hokies will be on the road the following three weekends beginning with the UVA Ranked+1 event in Charlottesville and the Ivy Plus in Princeton, N.J., Sept. 19-21. Tech will compete in the ITA Men’s All-American (Sept. 27-Oct. 4) as well as the UVA Fall Classic (Oct. 3-5). Tech will be back in Charlottesville for the ITA Atlantic Regionals, Oct. 16-21. The Hokies will travel to Disney World for the Disney Tournament, Oct. 31-Nov. 2 and will conclude the fall slate Nov. 6-8 at the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing Meadow, N.Y.
Virginia Tech will compete in another tournament in January prior to the start of dual season, traveling to Sunrise, Fla. for the USTA Futures event, Jan. 9-18.
The dual portion of the schedule will begin on Jan. 17, hosting James Madison and Coastal Carolina in a double-header at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Tech will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, Jan. 23-24. The Hokies are slated to face host-team Alabama on the opening day and will play either host-team UNC or Oregon on the second day.
In the non-conference, the Hokies are also scheduled to face Marquette, Penn State, College of Charleston, UMBC, St. Bonaventure and VCU.
The Hokies will play their ACC opener on March 6, hosting Notre Dame. Tech will also host conference foes Duke (March 8), Boston College (March 13), Clemson (March 15), North Carolina (March 29) and Georgia Tech (April 12).
Virginia Tech will play ACC matches on the road against Wake Forest (March 20), NC State (March 22), Louisville (April 3), Virginia (April 5), Miami (April 17) and Florida State (April 19).
The ACC Championship is scheduled for April 23-26 in Cary, N.C.
