GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech led the ACC with four men’s tennis student-athletes on the 2014 All-ACC Academic Men’s Tennis Team with Andreas Bjerrehus, Amerigo Contini, Hunter Koontz and Joao Monteiro all earning honors as announced Thursday by Commissioner John Swofford.

This marks the second academic honors for Bjerrehus, Contini and Koontz while Monteiro earns his first conference academic recognition.

Bjerrehus earned All-ACC second team honors and finished the season ranked 93rd in the ITA and ninth in the Atlantic Region after compiling a 14-10 mark in singles while going 5-5 versus ranked opponents. The sophomore management major was also strong in doubles, tallying a 15-10 record with teammate Contini and a 10-2 mark with Koontz. Bjerrehus and Contini ranked 49th in the final ITA national standings and were fourth in the Atlantic Region.

Contini was tabbed to the All-ACC first team this season, finishing with an 18-6 record in the No. 1 singles while going 13-6 against nationally ranked foes. For the second consecutive season, the sophomore engineering major earned a spot in the NCAA Singles Championship. Contini finished the season ranked 24th in the ITA standings and was tabbed third in the Atlantic Region.

Koontz posted a 13-12 record in duals, including an 8-5 mark in the No. 3. The junior finance major claimed three wins over nationally ranked opponents during the season. In addition, Koontz posted a 10-2 record in doubles, including 8-2 in the No. 1 with teammate Bjerrehus. The pair finished the season ranked 10th in the Atlantic Region.

Monteiro tallied a 16-7 record in singles on the season, earning All-ACC third team honors and finishing 20th in the Atlantic Region. The sophomore finance major recorded an 8-1 record in the No. 3 and went 8-6 in the No. 4 while picking up a pair of wins over nationally ranked opponents.
