ATHENS, Ga. – Virginia Tech sophomore Amerigo Contini was eliminated in the second round of the 2014 NCAA Men’s Singles Championship on Wednesday afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
Florida’s Florent Diep defeated Contini in three sets, 3-6, 7-6 (1), 6-1. Diep, ranked 51st in the ITA rankings, was coming off a three-set win over Elon’s Cameron Silverman in the opening round. Contini, ranked 20th, defeated Illinois’ Tim Kopinski, a replacement for seventh-seeded Axel Alvarez Llamas of Oklahoma, in the first round.

For the second consecutive day, Contini headed to a third set. Diep earned an early break and never looked back, winning the final set, 6-1.
