GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 36th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will open the 2014 ACC Men’s Tennis Championship on Thursday, April 24 at noon against 25th-ranked Wake Forest at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.

The Hokies earned the seventh seed after finishing with a 5-6 record in the ACC while the Deacs are 3-8, earning the 10th-seed. Virginia Tech defeated Wake during the regular season in a close 4-3 match at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

In addition to the Hokies and the Deacs, No. 8 Florida State (17-10, 4-6) and No. 9 Miami (14-10, 4-7) will face each other in the first round along with No. 5 Clemson (19-7, 6-5) taking on No. 12 Boston College (4-15, 0-11) and No. 6 NC State (16-8, 5-6) squaring off against No. 11 Georgia Tech (7-14, 1-10).

Virginia (20-2, 11-0 ACC) earns the No. 1 seed and enters the Championship having won the last seven championships and nine of the previous 10.

In addition to UVA, teams that received first-round byes include No. 2 Duke (18-5, 10-1), No. 3 North Carolina (22-4, 9-2) and No. 4 Notre Dame (18-8, 7-4).

The ACC boasts 11 of its 12 men’s tennis teams ranked in the ITA standings. The league also features 28 singles players and 19 doubles teams in the ITA rankings.

Action in the 2014 ACC Men’s Tennis Championship is set to start at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning and will conclude on Sunday, April 27 at 11 a.m. with the championship match.
