BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team, ranked 36th in the country, will take on the 4th-ranked Virginia Cavaliers in their final match of the regular season on Saturday, April 19 at 11 a.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.

The Hokies (13-9, 5-5 ACC) enter Saturday with a chance to end the season with a winning record in conference play. Last weekend, Tech earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over 23rd-ranked Wake Forest, before losing a close match to 32nd-ranked N.C. State, 3-4.

Tech is led by standout sophomores Amerigo Contini and Andreas Bjerrehus, who are ranked in both singles and doubles. In singles, Contini is ranked 21st and Bjerrehus 119th. In doubles, the duo is ranked 43rd.

UVA (19-2, 10-0 ACC) comes into the match riding an ACC-record 117-match winning streak in conference play. The Cavaliers set the record last weekend with a 7-0 win over Wake Forest.

Virginia boasts a lineup that features seven ranked singles players and four ranked doubles players. Junior Mitchell Frank is ranked 2nd in the country in singles, while senior Alex Domijan, who has lost only once this year, is ranked 17th. Also ranked in the top 50 is sophomore Ryan Shane, who is ranked 45th.

Virginia’s only losses of the year have come to No. 1 Ohio State and No. 5 UCLA.

Saturday’s match will mark the 52nd time the rivals have met on the court. The ‘Hoos control the all-time series with 43 wins to Tech’s eight.

With the regular season concluded, Tech will travel to Cary, N.C. on April 24 for the start of the ACC Championships.
