BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team, ranked 42nd in the country, will host a pair of conference matches this weekend at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va. On Friday, April 11 the Hokies will square off against 23rd-ranked Wake Forest at 3 p.m. Tech will return to the court on Sunday, April 13 for a showdown with the 32nd-ranked North Carolina State Wolfpack at 1:30 p.m.

Virginia Tech (12-8, 4-4 ACC) is coming off a 5-2 win over in-state foe VCU, who is ranked 48th, on Wednesday. The victory was the Hokies’ seventh win over a ranked opponent this season. Sophomores Amerigo Contini, ranked 28th, and Andreas Bjerrehus, ranked 116th, have helped the Hokies put together a winning record this season. Contini and Bjerrehus are also ranked in doubles, coming in at the 37th spot. Bjerrehus and junior Hunter Koontz are ranked 69th in doubles.

Wake Forest (14-8, 3-4 ACC) enters Friday on a two-match winning streak after sweeping a home doubleheader against George Washington and Boston College. The Demon Deacons boast a lineup that features three ranked singles players and two ranked doubles teams. In singles, Romain Bogaerts is ranked 34th, Adam Lee is ranked 58th, and freshman Maksim Kan is ranked 93rd. In doubles, Lee and teammate Pedro Dumont are ranked 40th. Ranked right behind them in the 41st spot is the duo of Dumont and Jonathan Ho.

North Carolina State (14-7, 3-5 ACC) has won three straight matches, including an upset over 12th-ranked Notre Dame last weekend. The Wolfpack’s lone ranked singles is Austin Powell, who is ranked 52nd. Despite having only one ranked player in singles, N.C. State has three doubles pairs that are ranked. Robbie Mudge and Sean Weber are ranked 34th, Ian Dempster and Mudge are ranked 38th, and Nick Horton and Weber are ranked 48th.

Tech is tied for fifth in the ACC standings with a 4-4 conference record. Wake is seventh with a 3-4 mark and N.C. State, with a 3-5 record, is tied for eighth.

Tech trails the all-time series with Wake Forest, 15-19. However, the Hokies lead the all-time series against the Wolfpack, 13-6.

The Hokies will conclude their regular season next weekend with a big match against rival and ACC leader Virginia on Saturday, April 19 at 11 a.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
