BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 38th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will head south for a pair of conference matches this weekend. On Friday, April 4, the Hokies will take on the 64th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at 4 p.m. at the Byers Tennis Complex in Atlanta, Ga. On Sunday, Tech will square off against 17th-ranked Clemson at 1 p.m. at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson, S.C.

Virginia Tech (10-7, 3-3 ACC) jumped from No. 54 to No. 38 in the national rankings this week after defeating two ranked opponents, Florida State and Miami, last weekend. Sophomore Andreas Bjerrehus, ranked 120th in the country, was named ACC Male Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday, after posting a perfect 4-0 record on the weekend. Another Hokie sophomore, 19th-ranked Amerigo Contini, has also been impressive this season. Contini is 9-1 in his last ten matches, and has seven wins over ranked opponents on the season.

Georgia Tech (7-9, 1-5 ACC) enters Friday’s contest on a three-match losing streak. The Yellow Jackets’ Carlos Benito and Eduardo Segura are ranked 23rd in the country in doubles.

Clemson (17-4, 4-2 ACC) suffered a tough 4-1 defeat to Wake Forest last weekend, giving the Tigers only their fourth loss of the season and second loss in conference play. The Tigers enter the weekend with two players ranked nationally. Junior Hunter Harrington is ranked 82nd in singles. In doubles, the duo of Harrington and Domonique Maden are ranked 25th. Before taking on the Hokies on Sunday, Clemson will play No. 4 Virginia on Friday.

The series between Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech is tied at six wins apiece. The Hokies trail the series with the Tigers, 7-9.

After this weekend’s road trip, the Hokies will return home for a weekday match against VCU on Wednesday, Apr. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.
