GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia Tech sophomore Andreas Bjerrehus has been named the ACC Male Tennis Player of the Week as announced on Tuesday by the league office.
Tech’s Bjerrehus picked up wins in both singles and doubles on the weekend, as the No. 54 Hokies defeated No. 24 Florida State, 5-2 and No. 39 Miami, 6-1. Against FSU, Bjerrehus teamed up with Hunter Koontz to take down the 41st-ranked tandem of Dominic Cotrone and Blake Davis, 8-5. Bjerrehus followed that up with a 6-4, 7-6(6) win over No. 65 Cristian Gonzalez Mendez in the No. 2 singles. In the Miami match, Bjerrehus and Amerigo Contini paired up to defeat Gabriel Flores and Diego Soto 8-3 in the No. 1 doubles match. Bjerrehus also claimed a straight set win in No. 2 singles, defeating Soto, 6-4, 6-1.
Bjerrehus and the rest of the Hokies will be back on the court on Friday, April 4 when they travel to Atlanta, Ga. to face 64th-ranked Georgia Tech.
