BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 54th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will look to return to its winning ways this weekend, as the Hokies host a pair of conference matches this weekend at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va. On Friday, March 28, the Hokies square off against the 24th-ranked Florida State Seminoles at 2 p.m. Tech takes on 39th-ranked Miami on Sunday, March 30, at noon.

Virginia Tech (8-7, 1-3 ACC) enters the weekend on a three-match slide, with all three of those losses coming against top-20 opponents. Sophomore Amerigo Contini, ranked 19th in the country in singles, has been impressive for the Hokies this season. Contini is 18-6 on the season, including six wins over nationally-ranked opponents. Fellow sophomore Andreas Bjerrehus, who began the dual match season ranked 60th in singles, returned to the rankings this week at No. 120 after earning a win over Duke’s 58th-ranked Fred Saba last week. Bjerrehus and Contini are also ranked 64th in doubles.

Florida State (15-5, 2-0 ACC) is riding a three-match win streak into Blacksburg, including two wins over ACC foes Wake Forest and NC State. The Seminoles have a roster that features five nationally-ranked players. In singles, Carlos Gonzalez Mendez is ranked 65th, Dominic Cotrone is ranked 101st, and Benjamin Lock is ranked 123rd. In doubles, the duo of Lock and Marco comes in at 15th, while Cotrone and teammate Blake Davis are ranked 41st.

Florida State has yet to notch a road win this year, going 0-3 in the Seminoles’ three away matches.

Miami (13-4, 3-1 ACC) will head to Charlottesville, Va. to take on the fourth-ranked Virginia Cavaliers before the match against Tech on Sunday. The Canes come into the weekend on a seven-match winning streak. Senior, 92nd-ranked, Omar Aly has posted a 12-3 record on the year and is Miami’s lone ranked player.

Virginia Tech will play Florida State for the 11th time in program history. The Seminoles lead the series 6-4, but the Hokies claimed the last two meetings with scores of 4-3.

Sunday’s match will mark the 16th time that Tech and Miami have met on the court. The Canes lead the series 8-7, but the Hokies won last season 7-0 in Coral Gables and claimed the 6-1 win the last time in Blacksburg.

The Hokies will return to the court on Friday, April 4 at 4 p.m. for a conference match against Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Ga.
