No. 46 Tech travels west for a pair of matches
Hokies to take on No. 72 Washington, No. 19 Boise State

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team, ranked 46th in the country, will make a rare west coast trip for a pair of matches. The Hokies will first travel to Seattle, Wash. for a match against the 72nd-ranked Washington Huskies on Wednesday, March 12 at 6 p.m at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle, Wash. Tech will then head to Boise, Idaho to square off against 19th-ranked Boise State on Saturday, March 15 at 7 p.m. at the Appleton Outdoor Tennis Center in Boise.

Virginia Tech (7-4, 1-1 ACC) last played on Friday, Feb. 28, when they nearly upset 6th-ranked Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish defeated the Hokies 4-3.

Washington (7-6, 0-2 PAC-12) is coming off a 5-2 victory over 42nd-ranked Minnesota on Friday. One of the Huskies’ losses is to Tulsa, whom the Hokies defeated 4-3 at the ITA Tip-Off Weekend in late January.

Boise State (11-3, 1-0 MWC) also defeated Minnesota 5-2 in their last match. The Broncos will take on in-state foe Idaho State before facing off against Tech in the second leg of a home doubleheader.

The Hokies have been led by nationally-ranked sophomore Amerigo Contini this season, who moved up to 24th in the ITA singles standings this week. He is 15-5 on the season and has posted an 8-2 record in dual matches. Fellow sophomore Andreas Bjerrehus is 15-6 on the season, including a 6-4 mark in dual matches. Junior Hunter Koontz has also been impressive for the Hokies, posting an 8-2 record in dual matches.

Wednesday’s match will mark the third time Tech and Washington have met on the court. The Huskies won the previous two matchups. Tech will face Boise State for the sixth time on Saturday. The Hokies won four of the five previous matches.

The Hokies will return to the east coast for conference play with a match at Duke on Friday, Mar. 21 at 3 p.m. in Durham, N.C.
