BLACKSBURG, Va – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will host a doubleheader on Tuesday, Feb. 25 against non-conference foes James Madison and St. Bonaventure at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.
Tech will play James Madison at 2 p.m. before facing off against St. Bonaventure at 7 p.m. James Madison and St. Bonaventure will start the day’s action with a 9 a.m. match.
The Hokies (5-3, 1-0 ACC) are looking to rebound from a close 4-3 loss at 48th-ranked Louisville on Friday.
Tech junior Hunter Koontz enters Tuesday on a five-match winning streak and has tallied a 7-1 record in No. 3 singles in dual matches this season. Koontz and teammate Andreas Bjerrehus are 5-0 on the season in doubles, including a 3-0 mark in No. 1 doubles in dual matches. Sophomore Amerigo Contini, ranked 38th in the nation in singles, has also been impressive for the Hokies this season, winning his last three matches in No. 1 singles.
James Madison (2-3) comes in to the match on a two-game losing streak, after falling to UMBC on Saturday 6-1. Tuesday’s showdown will be the 23rd meeting between the two Virginia schools, with Tech controlling the series 19-3.
The Bonnies (2-9) earned their second win of the season last weekend with 4-3 victory over Drexel, but have had a slow start to the season, losing nine of their first 11 matches. Tech and St. Bonaventure will meet for the 13th time on Tuesday, with the Hokies winning the first 12 matches.
Virginia Tech will return to the court on Friday, Feb. 28 with an ACC match at Notre Dame at 6 p.m.
