BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 40th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will travel to Louisville, Ky. this Friday for a non-conference match with 48th-ranked Louisville at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

The Hokies (5-2, 1-0 ACC) return to the court after sweeping ACC foe Boston College 7-0 last weekend.

Virginia Tech enters the match with two ranked players in No. 1 and 2 singles. In No. 1 singles, sophomore Amerigo Contini is ranked 38th and possesses a record of 5-2 in dual matches. In the No. 2 spot, fellow sophomore Andreas Bjerrehus is ranked 94th and has tallied a 4-2 mark thus far in dual matches.

Hokie junior Hunter Koontz has posted the best record for the Hokies, going 6-1 in No. 3 singles.

The Cardinals (6-2) are coming off a 4-2 win over 59th-ranked Nebraska. Louisville’s only two losses on the season have come to teams ranked in the top 25. At the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, the Cardinals lost to No. 1 Ohio State 4-1. Louisville was handed the other loss by No. 23 North Carolina, 4-1.

Louisville is led by juniors Van Damrongsri, Sebastian Stiefelmeyer, and Albert Wagner. Damrongsri and Stiefelmeyer have both posted 4-2 records on the season in dual matches. Wagner owns a 3-3 mark in dual match singles play and, with teammate Alex Gornet, is ranked 50th in doubles.

Tech and Louisville met last year with the Cardinals edging the Hokies 4-3.

The Hokies return home for a non-conference doubleheader with James Madison and St. Bonaventure on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.
